Motivation Monday Interview: Karen Kennedy

Q: How did you get started in the health and fitness industry?

A: My first major exposure in the health and fitness industry was during the filming of the JNL Fusion DVD videos. As a Team Beachbody coach, it was a dream come true to film alongside one of my vision board “Body visions” Jennifer Nicole Lee and Diet Diva, Unni Greene.

Q: How did you turn fitness into a career?

A: Honestly, my passion got the best out of me and that allowed me to turn my FIT Exec on and inspire those in my health care industry as well as help other career driven individuals learn how to schedule self improvement into their days until it became their lifestyle.

Q:  What is your favorite fitness quote and why?

A: “FearlesslyCommitted2Fitness” of course, it comes from my quiet spiritual time, when I was praying for guidance on how I might use what I have learned to bless others, there was a daily devotion in “My Utmost for His Highest” by Oswald Chambers that referenced Psalm 9 and in a nutshell said “Make up your mind to live by faith, not by sight. Fearlessly commit yourself to the authority of God’s Word and there won’t be anything in this old, unstable world that can steal your security from you.”
Anyone whether they are an athlete or just making it through their next fad diet can use this – to press on and persevere. WE are meant to make our vessels the best we get…and our choices eventually make their way to the surface.

Q: What does your diet look like on a typical day?

A: First of all, it’s planned, weighed and pre-packaged so I can heat it or eat it cold. Consistency in the diet equals equilibrium on so many levels and fueling the body so it can perform is essential! Every morning I have oatmeal or oatbran (even on competition days) and a lean protein, 10 or 11 I’m having a snack, then nice balance of protein, carb and fat at lunch, followed by a afternoon snack and finally dinner that usually consists of grilled fish or chicken and a green veggie. My body doesn’t get carbs at dinner if it’s not in a green veggie source.

Q: Do you believe in cheat meals? Why or why not?

A: OH YES! If you are going to enjoy all this hard work, you have to get out with your sweetie or besties at least once a week to spend some of that hard earned #$@$@ and at least for me, it reduces the temptation during the week.

Q: What is your favorite body part to train? Favorite exercise for that body part?

A: My favorite body part to train is my outer glute area – I like that i have a big butt and the rounder the better. The skater lunge is my favorite exercise for burning that area out!

Q: How much cardio do you do and what type?

A: Off Season – 1 hour/day 6 days per week.  On Season – up to 2 hours/day 6 days per week

Q: What advice would you give someone who is trying to break into fitness modeling?

A: Set up a Facebook Fan Page and have the discipline to only post modeling pics there (it’s cheaper than a website and easy to manage); link and like those people who represent the model you want to be like and send them messages related to the pics/posts you like so you know the photographers you want to shoot with – invest in the right photographers that take themselves and you serious – this will help eliminate a lot of wasted time to get in front of the right audience.

Q: What can we expect from you in the future?

A: I’m an executive by choice and fitness, modeling and competing are all blessings that I am uber grateful for, but my priority is to continue inspiring other executives to be FIT Executives within their busy days. That means, I’ll continue to post photos, encouraging messages and add more to my KarenKennedyFit YouTube channel to allow more to get fit with videos for the execs on the go and many of my hot followers!

In my spare time (smile) I’ll continue to promote great products, supplements and products that bring fitness to life, communities and family and pray to God that I’ll become a bodybuilding PRO before I’m 40.

In the next 2 months, I’ll hang up my competition heels and throw on my tri-athelon apparel for the Escape to Miami and then train for the ING Half Marathon in January 2014. Then I hang up my running shoes to build my muscles and hit the competitor stage in March!

Thank you for sharing the interview with us! It’s interesting to learn how much someone who models a FIT body (not just skinny) eats, trains, etc.
